Service Technician
At Hernandez Heating and Cooling, Service Technicians perform maintenance, diagnose, and repair heating and cooling systems in both residential and commercial environments.
We are looking for technicians with at least 5 years of experience in troubleshooting, service, repair, and maintenance of residential and commercial HVAC equipment, and that demonstrate strong customer service skills and present yourself professionally, exhibit a good work ethic, and are organized and efficient while taking pride in your work. Sales experience is a plus.
In addition to basic requirements, Service Technicians should have experience and understanding of the following:
- Basic refrigeration cycle to include identifying components in refrigeration circuit, understanding how each component works, diagnosing problems in the refrigeration circuit, using manifold gauge set, pressure/temperature chart and temperature measuring devices for routine maintenance and to troubleshoot.
- Basic heating cycle to include identifying components in heating system, understanding how each component works, diagnosing problems in the heating system using a gas pressure test and other devices for routine maintenance and to troubleshoot.
- Theory of combustion and how it relates to combustible fuels such as gas and oil.
- Theory of hydronics and how it relates to boilers.
- You must be able to proficiently perform the following tasks: Soldering Brazing Basic heat load calculations Basic heat loss calculations Refrigeration recovery, evacuation, and charging.
- Basic electron theory, how electricity travels, AC and DC currents, single phase and three phase circuits, and series and parallel circuits.
- Ability to read basic wiring diagrams.
- Understanding of Ohms Law.
- Ability to use multi-meters to read voltage, current and resistance values.
- Must be able to troubleshoot basic electrical circuits.
- The process of treating air so as to simultaneously control its temperature, humidity, and distribution.
- Our Service Technicians stay up to date on HVAC technologies, tools, and techniques.
- Have the ability to use computer technology for documenting and invoicing jobs.
- Travel to customer sites to provide on-the-Job training and quality control when needed and assist other technicians, in-person or by phone, as needed.
